B Media To Teach Remix Course @ PNCA

This Spring B Media is partnering with PNCA to bring an amazing mash-up video course.  From the radical roots of the culture jamming form, to the techniques necessary to do it, students will become political remix video aficionados –and make their own short film throughout the course.  This is the last week to sign up –get on it!

COURSE DESCRIPTION:


This course is designed for artists who wish to experiment with film to engage with and respond to a contentious topic in the 
mainstream media and the popular culture.  Participants will make a 3-5 minute video art piece that remixes found footage related to their topic, recontexualizing the power dynamics and ideological framework present in the original footage. Topics covered include utilizing video archives, culture jamming, media literacy, copyright and creative commons law. Prerequisite: Basic familiarity with Final Cut Pro or similar video editing program.

INSTRUCTOR BIOS:

Instructors Rio Collier and Nat Needham are multi-media artists and members of B Media Collective, a Portland-based video art collective that uses film to intervene and activate political dialogue.  They have taught video production and media literacy workshops together at the community and university level, working locally with groups like Sisters of the Road, and We Are Oregon, as well as at universities across the country from Evergreen and PSU to Stanford and Brown.
